On Trend: Women's Empowerment in the Workplace

When we opened our doors in 2001 as a female co-founded business,
our leaders paved the way to empower women employees. From the start, a culture was created that made it possible for women to thrive. It can be complicated at times and we don’t claim to have it all figured out—we recognize women’s needs and aspirations have evolved and will continue to evolve over time, but staying ahead is a responsibility we openly welcome.

Recently, we have been inspired by the actions others have taken to drive progress in the workplace and in the world. Let’s take a look at a few companies that are actively and successfully advocating for women and the value they possess.

1. Inclusivity-first mindset

Nestle’s own Gender Acceleration Plan is aimed at increasing the number of women in their top 200 leadership roles by 2022, a new policy provides all primary caregivers an additional six weeks of parental leave, and unconscious bias training is provided to employees and people managers. READ

3. Going above and beyond

Founded with women’s empowerment at the core, Naja is changing the game. Not only have they fostered an environment that helps women balance work and childcare via flexible working hours, but they are helping cover the cost of books, supplies, uniforms, and meals for the children of Naja workers. Founded by moms, activists, and community leaders, The Lower Eastside Girls Club is in the third year of their citywide civic leadership initiative to educate female-identified and gender expansive youth across New York City on the symbiotic relationship between civics, policy, and social justice. We are fortunate enough to work with this amazing organization and witness their magic. READ

The premise of Whitney Wolffe Herd’s dating app Bumble was to give women the control in dating. Across the workplace, Herd advocates for women employees to make the first move when it comes to taking charge of career growth and their monetary worth, including a mandatory, semi-annual, open discussion about salary. Now what?

 

In an industry where women leadership teams are not common, we’re proud to have a female-majority leadership team and an amazing team of talented individuals that support them.

We believe by creating opportunities for women to reach their potential, we will all go further. The action, support, and advocacy from all employers, all brands, and the people we love is what will help continue to drive further progress to ensure the future for women is bright.
